Hey Meno Movers & Shakers,
Did you know September is actually Perimenopause Awareness Month? It’s true — and honestly, it’s about time. For too long, perimenopause has been brushed off or hidden in the shadows.
Over here at Meno Moms, we’re doing our part to raise awareness, build community, and keep advancing the conversation around it. Because this stage of life is real, it’s powerful, and it deserves to be talked about. From hot flashes and brain fog to mood shifts and sleepless nights, perimenopause can be a rollercoaster. Yet it’s rarely acknowledged out loud.
Not here. Not with us. We’re flipping the script together.
Building a Meno Movement
That’s where the Meno Movement comes in. When we share our stories, we realize we’re not alone. We start to flip the script:
-
From silence to sisterhood
-
From shame to strength
-
From “just deal with it” to “you deserve support.”
And honestly, just having a friend say, “Yes, me too” can make a world of difference. These conversations take away the stigma and bring back a sense of power.
A Little History
So let’s talk about how this all started. Perimenopause Awareness Month is actually brand new. It first kicked off last year when a women’s health platform called Perry teamed up with the National Menopause Foundation. Their thought was simple: if menopause gets its own day and month, why shouldn’t perimenopause (you know this stage that leads right onto it) have its own awareness month to put a spotlight on it too?
This year, momentum is already building, with 12 U.S. states (woot woot!!) officially proclaiming September as Perimenopause Awareness Month. And it’s not just a U.S. thing anymore. Communities in Europe and the UK are joining in too, because perimenopause is global, and women everywhere deserve this conversation.
Now September's Perimenopause Awareness Month flows right into October’s Menopause Awareness Month, which is already (YAY!) recognized internationally. Together, these back-to-back observances mean midlife finally has a seat at the table.
Just Saying ... A Few Things That Might Help
As each of you know, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to perimenopause. We’re all living this in real time, and what helps one of us might not work for all of us. Still, here are a few things many in this community have found helpful along the way:
-
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Hot flashes and night sweats can leave you parched. Keeping a tumbler nearby (yes, we made one stylish enough for midlife queens) helps you stay refreshed through the day and night.
-
Prioritize rest. Sleep can get tricky, but winding down with a calming routine, tech-free time, or even a few minutes of deep breathing can sometimes make nights easier. And let’s be honest… who doesn’t want an easier night’s rest?
-
Keep moving. Whether it’s walking, yoga, or dancing in your kitchen, movement can do wonders for mood and energy. Even ten minutes counts — so yes, that living room dance party absolutely qualifies.
-
Find your people. Talking about it with friends or community (online or in person) makes it less isolating and much more empowering. And who knows… you might even find yourself laughing about the things that once felt impossible to say out loud.
Where to Learn More
If you’re looking for extra support or information, here are a few places this community often turns to:
-
Perimenopause Awareness (Perry): the team that helped kick off Perimenopause Awareness Month
-
National Menopause Foundation: working to change the conversation and support women in midlife
-
Online communities and hashtags like #MenoMovement
So Here’s to September
We started this community and lifestyle brand because we wanted more than “just deal with it.” We wanted a place that not only brings us together but also celebrates our glow-up, our resilience, and our power.
And just like at the start of this post, we’re doing our part — raising awareness, building community, and keeping the conversation going. Whether you’re sipping from your tumbler during a hot flash, rocking your crown tee, or simply scrolling here for a little solidarity, you’re part of this movement with us.
So here’s to making some noise this September. Share your story. Ask questions. Support another woman. Let’s show the world that perimenopause isn’t something to hide. It’s something we rise through, together.
Yours in sisterhood,
Debra and The Meno Moms Team
